She started her career in 2001 in the group S Club Juniore, who were later known as S Club 8. The band split in 2003 but went on to shoot I Dream in Spain. In 2007 she joined the girl group The Saturdays comprising fellow S Club 8 member Rochelle Wiseman, Una Headly, Mollie King and Vanessa White. She plays the acoustic guitar as well as some cello and piano.
In 2008 Sandford along with her other bandmates from The Saturdays starred in the Channel 4 Hollyoaks spinoff Hollyoaks later as themselves. She underwent an appendectomy in October 2008.
Sandford is currently dating Mcfly bassist Dougie Poyter.
